Named After a Queen,
Built for Future Leaders
Maharani Lakshmi Ammanni PU College for Women is named after Maharani Lakshmi Ammanni, a Queen of Mysore from the Wodeyar dynasty. Born in 1742, she administered the state as regent from 1799 to 1810 during the minority of Krishnaraja Wodeyar III — a testament to women's leadership that inspires our institution to this day.
The college was established in 1972 by eminent citizens of Bangalore including Dr. K.N.V Sastri, a distinguished historian and political thinker; Dr. M.N Mahadevan, a respected physician; and Sri T.S Rajam, Chairman of the TVS group of companies. They recognized the urgent need for an exclusive college for women in North Bangalore.
What began with just 12 students in a government building has grown into one of Bangalore's most trusted educational institutions, with over 3,500 students and a faculty of 40+ experienced educators. The PU College was formally established in 1976 and has since been a beacon of academic excellence.

The Beginning
Founded by Dr. K.N.V Sastri, Dr. M.N Mahadevan, and Sri T.S Rajam with 12 students in a government building, addressing the need for women's higher education in North Bangalore.
PU College Established
The Pre-University College was formally established, offering Science, Commerce, and Arts streams to young women seeking quality pre-university education.
